The communications and policy team is vital to our business. This team effectively communicates the positive impact Deliveroo is having on customers, restaurants, grocers, retailers and riders, whether that’s by offering riders flexible, on-demand work, helping our partners grow their businesses through online delivery, or providing consumers with exciting new food experiences.
Working in corporate communications at Deliveroo means being involved early in decisions regarding policy and operational matters. Communications isn't just about producing a press release after decisions are made; it’s about helping the business get its proposition right and determining how we tell our story externally to the media and other stakeholders.
What you'll be doing:
You will lead corporate communications in the UK and Ireland, as well as lead group financial communications and help shape the global communications strategy. You will report daily to the Global VP of Communications and Policy, working closely with the Chief Business Officer and UK Management Team, the Director of Policy and Head of Public Affairs UKI, CFO, Investor Relations team, and members of the global executive team.
You will lead reactive media for the UK and Ireland and group financials, as well as plan and deliver proactive stories and executive profiling in corporate, trade, and financial media and across LinkedIn. This includes managing the UK corporate communications agency, financial communication agency, and communication resources in Ireland. You will advise the company on the communication implications of policy and operational decisions and play a leading role in managing issues and crises, ensuring best practices across the communication function in issues management. You will have two direct reports.
You will be central to the positioning of Deliveroo in the UK and Irish media, ensuring the company’s voice is heard in debates on issues such as the future of work, the role of technology in the food sector, sustainable food delivery, and the future of the high street. You will also play a crucial role in driving confidence in Deliveroo’s business performance, partnering with Investor Relations on preparations for and execution of key financial calendar moments.
You will be a member of Deliveroo’s UK Leadership Team.
What we're looking for:
Essential ingredients for the right candidate for the Head of Corporate Communications role will be:
- A strong understanding of the political context in the UK and Ireland and good pre-existing relationships with journalists.
- Experience in crisis communications.
- Experience in leading media campaigns, devising strategy and executing, with a proven track record of working closely with other functions, including Operations, Commercial, Investor Relations, Marketing, and Public Affairs.
- An enthusiasm for up-to-the-minute, challenging media issues. This includes a desire to engage with journalists and form strong relationships with them. Business editors, political journalists, and tech correspondents are all highly relevant.
- A proactive attitude and a desire to learn about and help make decisions across the business, from commercial and operational decisions to HR policies.
- A good understanding of the complexity of policy and societal issues in which Deliveroo may be involved, and a desire to ‘shape the debate’ with Deliveroo’s work.
- An understanding of financial communications.
- Excellent stakeholder management and experience working directly with executive-level teams.
